Location: The Rotherham Hospice, with some work in the community or partner venues

Salary: A GBP 26,924 : A GBP 30,375 per annum

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week : 5 days Monday to Sunday

About The Role

The Activities Coordinator works as part of the Wellbeing and Activities service to plan and deliver meaningful activities that enhance quality of life for patients and families.

The post holder organises and facilitates individual and group activities across the Inpatient Unit and Supportive Care services, and, where appropriate, in other hospice or community settings. This includes social, creative, recreational and seasonal activities that reflect peoples interests, abilities and cultural backgrounds.

The Activities Coordinator works closely with the Wellbeing and Activities Manager, Complementary Therapist, Hairdresser, volunteers and clinical teams to make sure activities are well co:ordinated, safe and person centred, in line with Living Lifes Wishes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the Wellbeing and Activities Manager, clinical staff, patients and families to plan a varied programme of activities.
  • Prepare simple monthly or weekly activity schedules and ensure they are communicated clearly to patients, families and staff.
  • Adapt activities to meet the needs and preferences of individuals, including those with physical, cognitive or sensory needs.
  • Ensure that activity resources and spaces are prepared in advance and tidied afterwards.

Delivering activities and supporting patients

  • Facilitate group and one to one activities at the hospice and, where appropriate, in other settings.
  • Encourage and support patients to take part in activities, recognising that energy levels and mood may fluctuate.
  • Work in a sensitive and flexible way, allowing patients and families to join in or withdraw as they wish.
  • Support patients to maintain connections with their own hobbies and interests where possible.

Working with staff and volunteers

  • Work closely with nursing, care and therapy staff to identify patients who may benefit from activities.
  • Support and guide volunteers who are helping with activities, ensuring they feel confident and included.
  • Share information with colleagues about patients preferences and how they responded to activities, within confidentiality boundaries.

Quality, safety and documentation

  • Follow risk assessments and hospice policies for activities, outings and events, including infection prevention and control guidance.
  • Use equipment and materials safely and report any concerns or faults promptly.
  • Keep brief, accurate records of activity attendance and basic feedback, in line with hospice procedures.

Personal Specification

Essential

  • Experience of planning or delivering activities, recreation or group work with adults in a health, care, community or similar setting.
  • Experience of working as part of a team providing direct support or care.
  • Ability to plan and lead simple, engaging activities for individuals and small groups.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, including listening and building rapport.
  • Ability to adapt activities to meet different needs and preferences.
  • Basic organisational and time management skills.
  • Basic IT skills, including use of email and simple data entry.

Desired

  • Experience of working with people with serious illness, disability, frailty or dementia.
  • Relevant qualification or training in activities, arts, health and wellbeing or a related field.
  • Creative skills or interests that can be shared with patients (for example art, craft, music, reading, gardening).
  • Ability to contribute to simple evaluation or feedback processes.
