Deputy Named Professional for Safeguarding Adults

Band 7 | Part Time – 22.5 hours per week. Closing date: 2 July 2026.

Help shape safeguarding practice across one of the UK’s largest mental health trusts and play a key role in protecting adults at risk through expert leadership, partnership working and professional advice.

Who can apply

  • Occupational Therapists
  • Significant experience within statutory health or social care services
  • Strong knowledge of the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act and safeguarding legislation
  • Experience of Section 42 safeguarding enquiries
  • Excellent partnership working, leadership and communication skills
  • A passion for improving safeguarding practice and outcomes

The role

As Deputy Named Professional for Safeguarding Adults, you’ll provide expert leadership and specialist advice to staff across Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, helping ensure safeguarding practice is safe, effective and person‑centred.

You’ll:

  • Provide specialist safeguarding advice across adult mental health, learning disability and neurodevelopmental services
  • Support complex safeguarding concerns and incident management
  • Deliver engaging safeguarding training both online and face‑to‑face
  • Promote Making Safeguarding Personal principles across the organisation
  • Monitor safeguarding activity, analyse trends and support quality improvement
  • Share learning from Safeguarding Adult Reviews and Domestic Abuse Related Death Reviews
  • Represent the Trust at multi‑agency safeguarding meetings, including MARAC
  • Deputise for the Named Professional for Safeguarding Adults when required

About the service

The Safeguarding Service works across all adult services within Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, supporting clinicians and teams to deliver high‑quality safeguarding practice while meeting statutory responsibilities.

Working closely with operational teams and external partners, the service plays a vital role in promoting safety, dignity, human rights and continuous improvement across the organisation.

Location

Based at Aldrington House, Hove, with opportunities to work collaboratively across services and partner organisations throughout Sussex.

This is a 22.5 hour per week, non‑patient facing role.
