Graduate Teaching Assistant – Behaviour & Additional Needs (Year 2, 1:1 Support)

Location: NP19, Newport

Start: September (with flexible/part‑time integration this term)

Pay: From £92.63 per day (weekly pay)

Contract: Full-time

About the Role

You will support a Year 2 pupil with behavioural and additional learning needs (ALN) on a 1:1 basis in a primary school.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing consistent 1:1 classroom support
  • Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour
  • Using trauma‑informed and de‑escalation strategies
  • Following behaviour and support plans
  • Encouraging engagement with learning and routines
  • Supporting transitions and maintaining a calm environment
  • Working closely with the class teacher and SENCo

Desired Qualifications & Experience

  • Legal qualification in Psychology, Sociology, Education or a related field
  • Empathetic and emotionally intelligent
  • Proactive and adaptable
  • Firm but fair approach
  • Interest in long‑term career progression in education

Desirable experience includes:

  • Working with children in education, coaching, care or youth work
  • Supporting ALN/SEN or behavioural needs

Additional Information

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position; the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
