Overview
We are looking for chaplains to join our multi‑faith and belief team and provide excellent spiritual, pastoral and religious care across Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust.
As a chaplain you will assess the pastoral, spiritual and religious needs of patients and their supporters, ensuring these needs are met sensitively and appropriately, regardless of background or tradition.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with chaplaincy and other clinical colleagues to deliver person‑centred care.
- Provide pastoral, spiritual and religious care for patients and staff, individually or in groups.
- Offer or facilitate religious rituals within your scope of practice, or coordinate such rituals by others.
- Respond to day‑time and city‑wide out‑of‑hours duty rosters, attending calls within 60 minutes.
- Maintain professional practice in accordance with the UKBHC Code of Conduct (CPCPC) and all relevant Trust and NHS protocols.
- Contribute to the development of the Chaplaincy service, including training and education of colleagues.
- Participate in reflective practice and provide regular supervision with a recognised supervisor.
Banding and Duties
- Candidates will be appointed at Band 5 or Band 6 depending on experience, with a possibility of progression from band 5 to band 6.
- Band 6 applicants must meet the necessary skill and experience threshold as set by the Trust.
- Band 6 responsibilities additionally include training and education about pastoral, spiritual and religious care, involvement in complex cases and advising other clinical staff, and taking a lead in areas of chaplaincy work.
Qualifications
- Relevant experience and skills to justify band 5 or band 6 placement.
- Recognition by a UKBHC CPLD or equivalent and ability to work within the Trust’s clinical team.
- Ability to respond to urgent calls within 60 minutes.
