Summary

An opportunity for a Mountain Ranger in the Mourne Mountains. Salary £27,612 per annum, fixed term contract until 31‑Mar‑2028.

Location: Dundrum, Mourne Mountains.

Hours/working pattern: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week. Willingness to work some weekends, bank holidays, and evenings. UK driving licence essential.

Working in the Mourne Mountains means being immersed in one of Northern Ireland’s most dramatic upland landscapes. The role involves extensive work on the higher slopes of Slieve Donard and Slieve Commedagh, delivering practical conservation tasks such as upland path repair, erosion control, habitat restoration, and survey work.

You’ll also work closely with volunteers, tenant farmers, and local partners to support the delivery of the management strategy, habitat monitoring programmes, and conservation objectives.

What you’ll be doing

As a key member of the Mournes Ranger Team, you’ll deliver upland path repair, erosion control, habitat restoration, and manage wildfire strategy implementation. You will support planning and delivery of work programmes, assist with habitat and condition monitoring, and ensure safe, sustainable access for visitors.

Who we’re looking for

  • Practical experience in conservation work to protect and improve habitats and landscapes
  • Ability to communicate about the work with all kinds of people and explain its importance
  • Hard‑working and willing to learn
  • Able to work safely using risk assessments and following guidelines
  • Experience in managing land, access, and conservation, and working outdoors
  • Ability to operate machinery and equipment with relevant certificates
  • Full UK driving licence
