Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to undertake the role of Hydra Technician within the Crime Training team at Essex Police. The role requires experience in IT systems and an imaginative approach to product design and development, and involves creating and managing computer‑simulated training scenarios for all levels of staff.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate the development, design and production of computer‑simulated training scenarios for internal and external staff.
- Assist and support the course director in managing a variety of incidents, ensuring scenarios are realistic and relevant.
- Install, maintain and troubleshoot computers, audio/video, multimedia equipment and peripherals to ensure maximum availability during courses.
- Produce regular package reports from NCALT (National Centre for Applied Learning Technologies) and DevelopMe.
- Provide support to the Hydra facility as required, including during critical incidents and outside of normal working hours.
Qualifications
Essential:
- Proven track record in programming environments with detailed analysis and design of material.
- Ability to gather sufficient valid, reliable and consistent information towards organisational objectives.
- Advanced knowledge of one or more network environments with the ability to diagnose and resolve performance and fault issues.
- Expertise in the use of Microsoft Office applications to improve work processes.
Desirable:
- Ability to manage data quality and adhere to established rules and protocols when dealing with information management and technology.
- Background in training and utilizing IT to support various training methods.
- Prior knowledge of Police environment and policy.
Location
The Hydra facility is based at Essex Police College within the headquarters site in Springfield, Chelmsford. The location is easily accessible by road and public transport, with on‑site parking provided on a first‑come‑first‑served basis.
Working Conditions
Office‑based agile working with designated team area, predominantly working 60% or more in one office space. The rest of the time may involve working at home or other police site locations, subject to operational requirements and individual assessment.
