WSP is seeking an experienced Senior Technician to join our expanding North West and Midlands Roads business. The role provides design services for a diverse range of projects, supporting private developers, local authorities in the North West and Midlands, and national clients such as National Highways, National Grid, and East West Rail.
Responsibilities
- Production of technical engineering information, ensuring the quality of our products are in line with industry standards.
- Lead on CAD quality across the team to ensure we maintain high standards across our project portfolio.
- Supporting design development by applying your expertise in highways, drainage and civil infrastructure projects. You will be supported by a team of experienced and developing technical staff of various grades, to whom you will be expected to provide guidance and support as appropriate.
- Conduct site visits/investigations to gather information critical to successful project design.
- Apply safe systems of working and contribute to risk assessments.
Qualifications
- Proficient in software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil 3D and/or OpenRoads.
- Level 3 qualification (or above) in a STEM based subject, or equivalent experience in an engineering technician role.
- Attained or working towards professional qualifications such as EngTech, with demonstrable progress.
- An understanding of highway engineering principles, including design techniques, standards, and procedures with the ability to apply this knowledge to small‑scale projects or a limited number of moderately complex projects.
- Experience of data handling with MS Excel and/or other data‑based systems.
- Good communication skills dealing with clients, developers, consultants, elected representatives and the public.
- Ability to upskill others in the use of software as well as the ‘art of engineering drawings’.
- Good organisational skills and an attention to detail.
