Job overview

At Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust the skills to develop, support and maintain our systems and services are done in house with the help of a highly motivated group of technical specialists and specialist application support staff.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Senior Microsoft 365 Technician with an excellent understanding and knowledge of Microsoft products, network, infrastructure and systems support to join our ICT team. Adding to the wealth of knowledge already within the team.

Main duties

The ideal candidate will understand service needs and business impact, proactively supporting issue resolution, and responding at pace to demands in the live environment.

The main duties are to participate in the provision of an effective, efficient and high quality technical support service for BSMHFT staff ensuring that all support calls regarding ICT technical issues and infrastructure are recorded and dealt with in a timely and efficient manner in accordance with ICT services standards.

Person specification

Qualifications and experience required for this role include:

  • Degree or equivalent qualification or experience
  • Understanding of ITIL Service Management
  • Successful industry recognised training courses with certification of completion, for example Microsoft Certified Training Centre
  • Practical experience of M365 technical support environment
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory and Azure AD
  • Excellent up to date knowledge of M365 AI and Automation solutions
  • Knowledge of PC operating systems including Microsoft Windows 11 and M365 Office applications
  • Good working knowledge of the latest Windows server Operating systems
  • Working knowledge of LANs / WAN / Server services
  • Good working knowledge of using Microsoft Power Platform (Copilot Studio, Power Automate, Power Apps)
  • Experience of supporting hybrid environments (on‑premises and cloud)
  • Awareness of current IT legislation

  • Ability to communicate effectively on technical subjects with technical and non-technical staff at all levels
  • Proven ability to trouble shoot technical issues exercising excellent problem solving skills in situations without guidance or supervision
  • Ability to work on own initiative and produce accurate work
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise own workload
  • Ability to produce reports and technical documentation
  • Supervisory and team leading skills
