Role overview

We’re seeking a number of experienced Large Loss Technicians to manage a portfolio of significant bodily injury claims (up to a value of £250k) to strengthen the technical expertise within our established Bodily Injury department. You’ll be joining an expanding Technical Claims Unit that is evolving to meet the increasing complexity of the motor bodily injury landscape. In this role, you will play a key part in enhancing our technical capability, contributing to the continued growth and development of a specialist unit that is central to our future claims strategy. Job details – you’ll need to have demonstrable experience in:

  • Managing your own portfolio of complex motor personal injury claims, typically valued up to £250k, working within agreed authority levels and business defined criteria to ensure consistent and effective decision making.
  • Engaging and negotiating with a wide range of stakeholders to drive efficient and fair claim resolution. This includes customers, witnesses, insurers, solicitors, repairers, engineers, forensic accountants, investigators, medical agencies, police authorities and a multitude of other third parties.
  • Supporting colleagues through technical coaching and guidance and acting as a technical referral point – providing coaching, mentoring and training to ensure our colleagues build confidence and capability in handling complex bodily injury claims.
  • Conducting technical audits as required, accurately recording any findings and highlighting emerging trends or knowledge gaps.
  • Identifying and preventing fraudulent activity, ensuring claims are handled with diligence and integrity.
  • Participating in strategic projects aimed at enhancing our technical capability and ensuring the unit stays ahead of industry trends and best practice.

Essential skills/experience

  • Proven experience in handling high value motor bodily injury claims – with regular exposure to cases exceeding £150k‑250k.
  • Sound demonstrable technical knowledge of motor injury claims including liability, causation, quantum assessment, rehabilitation and litigation strategy.
  • Sound understanding of legal frameworks, including the CPR, case law developments, Ogden principles and claims cost management.
  • Experience of mentoring or coaching others, acting as a technical referral point or contributing to capability development.
  • Experience of working with external suppliers such as solicitors, counsel, medical experts etc.
  • Strong analytical capability – able to identify trends – alongside good computer literacy.
