Job Summary
Ashurst Primary School is looking for a teaching assistant with a passion for supporting children with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. The role involves working under the guidance of the SEMH Teacher and SENCO to build positive relationships with the children and support them toward mainstream school placement.
Responsibilities
- Work with children with SEMH needs and behavioural difficulties, including self‑regulation support.
- Raise standards of SEMH learners using a range of teaching strategies in line with school policies.
- Assist in planning and implementing programmes of support for primary‑aged children with their SEMH concerns as part of a 1:1 role.
- Help establish the ethos of the SEMH provision and support the SEMH Teacher to ensure high standards and consistency.
- Communicate effectively with staff and parents/carers regarding the learning needs of pupils who have SEMH concerns.
Experience and Qualifications
The successful candidate will have experience of working and supporting a pupil on a 1:1 basis with challenging behaviour and demonstrate a strong understanding of effective positive behaviour management.
