Role Description
The Academic Progress Mentor is a full‑time, on‑site role based in Milton Keynes, supporting learners to achieve their academic and personal goals. Day‑to‑day responsibilities include monitoring student progress, identifying barriers to learning, and providing tailored mentoring and guidance to help learners stay on track. The role involves working closely with teaching staff to develop and implement support plans, delivering one‑to‑one and small group sessions focused on study skills, time management, and confidence building. The Mentor will maintain accurate records, track attendance and performance, and communicate regularly with learners and colleagues to ensure effective interventions. The post also contributes to creating an inclusive learning environment by promoting positive attitudes, resilience, and engagement across diverse learner groups.
Qualifications
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trusting, supportive relationships with learners from diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent communication skills, including clear written and verbal communication and effective listening.
- Sound knowledge of basic Mathematics to support learners with numeracy and related study needs.
- Background or interest in Education and Training, ideally with experience in mentoring, tutoring, or learner support.
- Relevant qualification in education, teaching support, youth work, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Ability to plan and deliver structured support sessions, monitor progress, and use data to inform interventions.
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage a caseload effectively.
- Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusive practices within an educational setting.
