Sales Assistant

Birds Bakery, 4 Eyes Court, Town Street, Duffield, DE56 4EH

Hours

13 hours per week (Wednesday 10am-2pm, Thursday 9am-2pm, Saturday 7am-11am)

Purpose

The purpose of a bakery sales assistant is to serve customers, sell bakery products, and help keep the shop clean and organised, while maintaining a friendly and welcoming environment. Customer service and quality are at the forefront of everything we do.

Responsibilities

• Greet and serve customers in a friendly and helpful manner.
• Recommend bakery items such as bread, cakes, and pastries.
• Take customer orders and package products properly.
• Operate the till/cash register and handle payments.
• Restock shelves and displays to keep products available and attractive.
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the shop and display areas.
• Answer customer questions about ingredients, prices, or products.
• Upsell products to customers, such as offering hot drinks or confectionery goods with food.
• Prepare and serve a range of hot and cold bakery and food‑to‑go / eat‑in products.

Experience

• Previous experience in food retail is preferred but not essential; training will be provided.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• A positive attitude and the ability to stay resilient in a busy environment.
• Experience handling cash or working with tills/card machines (training will be provided).
• Flexibility to work shifts between Monday and Sunday.

Qualifications

Training will be provided for suitable applicants.

Pay Rates

• Age 19+: £12.71 per hour
• Age 18: £10.85 per hour
• Age 17: £8.50 per hour
• Age 16: £8.00 per hour
