Position Overview

Prison Intelligence Officer (PIO) – Counter Terrorism Policing – NorthEast (CTP NE). One full‑time permanent post. Position based in a prison in the York Area and a further location within the Humberside Force region.

Responsibilities

  • Provide an interface between CTP NE, Regional Organised Crime Units (ROCU) and HMPPS across North East Region prison establishments to develop intelligence supporting Counter Terrorism (including Domestic Extremism) and organised crime matters.
  • Ensure partnership approach to management, disruption, and investigation of high risk offenders to minimise threat and risk within the prison estate.
  • Work in West Yorkshire area and, when required, provide direct contact with inmates inside any prison within North East Region.
  • Support investigations and operational work throughout the 7 North East Regional Forces and nationally when required.
  • Participate in operational and partnership meetings and assist operationally across forces.

Qualifications

  • Experience working in a multi‑agency environment.
  • Computer literate with proven research and information processing experience.
  • Ability to work for prolonged periods without direct supervision.
  • Basic knowledge of the prison system and national policies relating to prisons.
  • British citizen eligible for a British passport; full, current UK/European driving licence.
  • Must be able to undertake flexible hours to meet CTP requirements.
  • Eligible for full vetting checks; non‑UK residents with less than five years’ residence may be refused.

Training Required

  • Intelligence Professionalisation Programme (IPP) accreditation process.
  • Operational Partnerships Team Course (OPT).
  • Working in Prison Course.
