Job Summary
This is a unique opportunity in HIV nursing to join and support our HIV clinical Nurse Specialist team based at Heartlands Hospital to work as a highly skilled clinical practitioner and develop, implement, evaluate and lead on a community outreach project.
Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required
The successful candidate will have direct and remote clinical involvement and be jointly responsible for the management of a caseload of clients with complex needs, acting as a specialist in this field.
A key aspect of this role will be to lead the development of a community outreach function within the existing HIV service. The post holder will shape and establish a new outreach pathway, improving access and engagement for patients within the community and supporting delivery of care in a more flexible and responsive way.
The post holder will devise, develop, implement, evaluate and maintain a community outreach HIV nursing programme with the wider MDT, including generation of appropriate policies, safeguards and training applicable to such a service.
The post holder will at times work as an autonomous practitioner dealing with patients presenting with complex conditions not limited to HIV and a wide range of socio-economic issues affecting their healthcare, providing highly specialist care, treatment, advice, information, education and counselling to patients, families, partners and carers living with or affected by HIV, in accordance with local UHB, British HIV Association (BHIVA), British Association of Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH) and other specialty guidelines.
Qualifications
- Registered Adult / Child Nurse on the NMC Register (Field dependent upon role)
- Evidence of post registration CPD / Post registration qualification in appropriate area of speciality or professional knowledge supplemented by specialist experience and short courses to degree / masters level equivalent FHEQ Level 6/7
Desirable Qualifications
- To have or working towards a MSc/ Masters qualification
- HIV specific educational programme.
- Recognised mentorship course.
- Health Assessment Module.
- Non-Medical prescriber.
Experience
Essential
- Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC
- Significant years post registration experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist at B6 or above in defined or associated speciality.
- Extensive experience of working autonomously at a specialist level
- Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of on-going professional development/competence.
- Demonstrate expert knowledge underpinned by theory and CPD relevant to speciality.
- Experience and enthusiasm for developing educational programmes and teaching / assessing and supervising others in a clinical setting.
- Working in a multi-disciplinary and cross agency work environment.
- Experience of patient service user advocacy role
- Can demonstrate expert nursing knowledge with an ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate specialist care delivered to patients and give advice and information to patients / relatives/ care staff
- Awareness of current relevant NHS policy context relating to the speciality
- Has understanding / experience of the principles of Safeguarding
- Knowledge of corporate and clinical governance
Desirable
- Experience of delivering change management both personally and as a facilitator
