Senior Maintenance and Current Engineering Manager

Main purpose of the job: To lead and manage the Maintenance, Manufacturing Engineering and Facilities functions across the plant, ensuring maximum equipment reliability, operational efficiency, product quality and production performance. The role is responsible for developing and implementing engineering strategies, delivering capital projects, supporting new product introduction, driving continuous improvement initiatives and maintaining compliance with all quality, environmental and health & safety standards.

The Senior Maintenance and Current Engineering Manager will provide strong leadership to multidisciplinary engineering teams whilst supporting the business strategy through cost control, asset management, operational excellence and employee development.

Main missions and results

Engineering Leadership

  • Lead and develop Maintenance, Manufacturing Engineering and Facilities teams, setting clear objectives and driving performance.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment, encouraging open communication and shared ownership of outcomes.
  • Coach, mentor and develop team members to build capability and support long‑term succession planning.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and engineering excellence across the function.

Maintenance Management

  • Ensure high levels of equipment reliability and availability through effective maintenance planning and execution.
  • Monitor performance using KPIs and implement improvements to reduce downtime and drive efficiency.
  • Develop team capability in fault finding, problem solving and asset care through coaching and structured improvement activities.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for major issues.

Manufacturing Engineering & NPI

  • Lead development and optimisation of manufacturing processes across production operations.
  • Manage New Product Introduction (NPI) and engineering change activities from feasibility through implementation.
  • Maintain manufacturing standards, process capability and production performance.

Continuous Improvement & Operational Excellence

  • Lead continuous improvement activities to enhance safety, quality, delivery and cost performance.
  • Apply structured problem‑solving (e.g. 8D, Root Cause Analysis, Lean methodologies).
  • Deliver cost reduction and efficiency improvements through engineering solutions and process optimisation.

Projects, Facilities & Financial Management

  • Lead capital projects, equipment installations and facility improvements from planning through execution.
  • Manage engineering budgets, CAPEX and contractor performance to deliver value for investment.
  • Support long‑term site development aligned to business strategy.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all HSE, quality and environmental standards (e.g. IATF16949, ISO14001, ISO45001).
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure robust safe systems of work.
  • Act as a role model for safe, compliant and ethical behaviours, reinforcing standards through visible leadership.
  • Support quality performance through defect reduction, process capability and customer‑focused engineering support.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Degree or HND in Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Significant experience in a senior engineering / maintenance leadership role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams and delivering capital projects, NPI and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing engineering, process development and asset reliability.
  • Experience with maintenance systems, automation, robotics and industrial equipment.
  • Understanding of quality systems, problem solving methodologies and continuous improvement tools.
  • Strong leadership and people development capability, with a focus on performance and engagement.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Effective problem solver with strong analytical and decision‑making skills.
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results.
