The new consultants are required to join the on‑call groups of anaesthetists at the John Radcliffe Hospital, the Nuffield Orthopaedics Centre, and the Churchill Hospital sites, all part of the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. These posts are replacement positions following retirements and are suitable for anaesthetists seeking a consultant career in a major teaching hospital with considerable expertise in major cancer surgery, complex vascular procedures, major trauma, orthopaedics, and plastics trauma surgery.
The Nuffield Department of Anaesthetics is one of the largest departments in the country. It is known for a friendly, diverse and inclusive team, supported by outstanding surgical colleagues. The department provides a comprehensive elective and emergency service for a wide range of surgical and diagnostic specialties.
The focus of this post is the delivery of high‑quality anaesthesia for major cancer surgery, complex vascular procedures, major trauma, orthopaedics, and plastics trauma surgery. Flexible sessions are included in the posts, allowing the post‑holder to maintain an interest and skillset in other areas of anaesthesia.
Out of hours, post‑holders will be on call to provide emergency cover for general surgery, trauma, specialist surgery including vascular procedures, plastics, ENT, stroke thrombectomy, and transplantation, depending upon their specialist interests and clinical experience.
