As a Transport Planner you’ll be the hero behind the scenes, helping to ensure smooth day-to-day operations, planning driver schedules for delivery, collection and troubleshooting any bumps in the road.

Key Responsibilities

  • Routing and Dispatch: Manage multiple vehicle movements on a daily basis, develop and optimise transportation routes to minimise travel time to provide the best customer experience as well as organising our drivers in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Capacity Planning: Assess transportation capacity requirements based on demand forecasts and order volumes.
  • Driver Management: Oversee the HR aspects of drivers, including attendance, performance, and general welfare.
  • Debriefs: Conduct driver debriefs to review daily operations, address issues, and promote continuous improvement.
  • Communication: Communicating with drivers, tracking vehicle locations, and managing driver hours compliance.
  • Customer Service: Acting as the first point of contact for clients, managing expectations, and solving delivery issues.
  • Compliance: Ensuring all vehicles and drivers adhere to UK transport regulations and company safety standards.
  • Administration: Maintaining accurate digital records, updating transport management systems, and generating reports.
  • Problem-Solving: Identify and resolve transportation-related issues, such as delays, breakdowns, route deviations and adjust the plan to accommodate issues as they arise.
  • Customer Service: Acting as the first point of contact for clients, solving delivery issues and making contact with customers for any updated delivery information required.
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Coordinate and manage vehicle maintenance schedules, ensuring fleet roadworthiness, minimising downtime, and maintaining compliance with legal requirements.
  • Administration: Maintain accurate digital records, update transport management systems, and generate operational reports.
  • Recruitment: Support and manage recruitment activities for the depot, including sourcing, interviewing, and onboarding drivers and transport staff.
  • Supplier Liaison: Liaise with external suppliers, including maintenance providers and service partners, to ensure efficient and cost-effective operations.
