This role is a key position within the Business and Corporate tax team. The successful candidate will deliver a mixed role of compliance and tax advisory services across a diverse mix of owner‑managed companies and large international groups operating across a variety of industries.
- Manage a portfolio of business tax clients, ensuring their compliance cycle is completed and deadlines met; build relationships and identify areas where Menzies can add value.
- Deliver tax advice and advisory projects in collaboration with colleagues across multiple Menzies business tax teams and other service lines.
- Identify wider opportunities and introduce other specialists across the firm.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of business tax clients, ensuring compliance requirements are met and relationships are strengthened.
- Assist with training and management of the business tax team.
- Advise OMBs on business and tax matters such as succession planning, remuneration planning, timing of capital expenditure, and capital allowances planning.
- Maintain a business‑tax focus while possessing working knowledge of other tax areas that affect entrepreneurs (e.g., Business Asset Disposal Relief, Business Property Relief).
- Support entrepreneurial businesses throughout their lifecycle, advising on IP protection, restructuring, business structure, staff incentives, international growth, and value building.
- Advise on equity incentive schemes such as EMI option schemes.
- Participate in networking, proposals, and growth of the corporate tax portfolio.
- Identify tax planning opportunities, risk mitigation, and cross‑selling between service lines.
- Train and mentor junior colleagues within the Business Tax Team.
- Ensure compliance with the firm’s technical, ethical, risk and compliance procedures.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Qualified accountant and/or CIOT qualified tax adviser with at least one year of post‑qualified experience in a tax‑related role.
- Experience working with corporate and entrepreneurial clients at an assistant manager or manager level.
- Corporate tax technical and practical knowledge.
- Good knowledge of tax issues affecting OMBs and their shareholders.
- Knowledge of other business taxes and tax reporting processes is preferable but not essential.
- Knowledge of UK accounting standards and ability to interpret accounts and financial information.
- Strong IT skills including MS Office and database use; alphatax knowledge ideal.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
