The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen due to site expansion and the launch of a new production line at a well‑established, global manufacturing operation in Bolton. We are seeking an experienced Shift Manager to play a key role in driving operational excellence, team performance, and continuous improvement within a high‑volume, regulated manufacturing environment.

The Role

As Shift Manager, you will be accountable for the end‑to‑end performance of your shift on a modern manufacturing line. You’ll lead, coach and develop your team while ensuring production targets, quality standards and compliance requirements are consistently achieved.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise all production activities during your shift, ensuring alignment with build schedules and pre‑SOP readiness.
  • Lead, motivate and develop the manufacturing team; conduct performance reviews and address staffing or performance issues.
  • Ensure product quality standards are met, responding quickly to defects or process issues.
  • Monitor KPIs including output, yield and efficiency, reporting performance to senior management.
  • Oversee equipment use, troubleshooting issues to minimise downtime and maximise productivity.
  • Resolve operational issues such as bottlenecks, equipment failure or supply chain disruption.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, environmental regulations and internal policies.
  • Drive continuous improvement through lean manufacturing and process optimisation initiatives.
  • Mentor and develop Production Team Members (PTMs), embedding lean thinking and accountability.
  • Act as a senior site contact during out‑of‑hours periods, supporting wider business needs.

Qualifications / Experience

  • 5+ years’ experience in production or shift management within a manufacturing environment (electronics or automotive preferred).
  • Strong working knowledge of IATF 16949, PPAP, APQP and FMEA.
  • Proven experience implementing lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar CI tools.
  • Experience coordinating cross‑functional teams and working with OEM customers.
  • Strong analytical skills with a practical, solutions‑focused mindset.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to influence at all levels.
  • Experience using MES, ERP systems and Microsoft Office for reporting and analysis.
  • Ability to manage priorities, deadlines and smooth shift handovers.
