Overview
Carrington West is assisting a local authority client in Essex to recruit an Interim Planning Officer for their Development Management team. The role is a 3 to 6 month initial contract, with extensions likely.
Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of householder applications, pre‑applications, and small‑scale minor applications (e.g. 1–2 houses).
- Analyse issues and produce clear, concise written decisions and recommendations.
- Use technology to deliver modern and streamlined services and processes.
- Ensure deadlines, performance targets and customer service commitments are met independently.
- Handle Green‑Belt application determinations.
- Conduct site visits, ideally once a week.
Qualifications
- Degree level qualification in planning or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
- Recent local authority planning experience.
- RTPI accredited Planning Degree or equivalent planning qualification is advantageous.
Skills and Knowledge
- Experience working within Development Management as a Case Officer.
- Ability to build positive relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
- Thorough knowledge of current local government issues.
- Strong organisational skills to meet deadlines and targets.
- Familiarity with Green‑Belt policies and assessment.
Pay Rate: £40‑£45 per hour (DOE)
