Consultant – Organ Retrieval & Liver Transplant
The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is recruiting two consultant surgeons in the Liver Transplantation & Hepatobiliary Surgery Department.
Scope of Practice
- Perform approximately 120–130 adult and 20 paediatric liver transplants annually and up to 175 transplants per year.
- Conduct around 175 organ retrievals and over 300 liver resections each year.
- Lead an active live donor liver transplant programme for adult and paediatric recipients.
- Provide coverage for the National Organ Retrieval Service (39 weeks per year).
- Deliver an elective general surgery component, treating benign biliary disease and other general surgical cases.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide consultant‑level surgical care in liver transplantation, organ retrieval, NRP and machine perfusion.
- Engage in research and academic activities and support undergraduate and postgraduate education.
- Present a 10-minute talk on “Liver Transplantation from DCD donors aged 70 years and over” should you be shortlisted.
Qualifications & Experience
- FRCS (or equivalent) and must be on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at interview.
- Experience in liver transplantation, organ retrieval, NRP, machine perfusion, and general surgery.
- Desirable: expertise in machine perfusion technologies and ANRP.
