With demonstrable experience in resource management and providing direction and strong people management skills, you will bring a background and knowledge in Environmental Health and/or Public Protection at a senior level. You will hold a level 7 qualification in a relevant discipline or have significant demonstrable experience in a relevant area, along with a full driving licence and access to a reliable vehicle.

Head of Public Protection – Overview
Would you like to lead the Council on a wide range of public protection matters? As our new Head of Public Protection, you will lead three teams, focusing on a wide range of statutory responsibilities including environmental health and licensing, private sector housing, community safety, public‑realm CCTV, emergency planning and business continuity. You will also take full responsibility for the Council’s corporate approach to health and safety, risk management and insurance, ensuring full up‑to‑date communication on key national and local developments within these key areas, whilst using your knowledge and learning to deliver service improvements in line with the Authority’s Community Plan.
Responsibilities
- Lead three teams delivering statutory public protection services.
- Develop and deliver strategic and operational plans, including service‑specific projects funded internally and externally.
- Oversee the Council’s corporate health and safety, risk management and insurance obligations.
- Ensure up‑to‑date communication on national and local developments relevant to public protection.
- Deliver service improvements in line with the Authority’s Community Plan.
Qualifications
- Level7 qualification in a relevant discipline or significant demonstrable experience in environmental health, public protection or a related senior role.
- Significant demonstrable experience in resource and people management.
- Full driving licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
