Deputy North England Director at Forestry England provides strategic and operational leadership in support of the North England Director, leading all aspects of Forestry England’s business across the North England Forest District.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day‑to‑day delivery of forestry and land management, civil engineering and recreation operations in partnership with Heads of Function and their teams.
  • Contribute to the wider strategic leadership of the District and translate national strategy into effective local delivery.
  • Represent Forestry England with partners and stakeholders, coordinating input to major programmes and projects of regional and national significance.
  • Coordinate complex, interdependent workstreams across forest planning, harvesting, civil engineering, recreation investment and land management, over annual and multi‑year timescales.
  • Co‑operate with Director and Finance Manager to drive the five‑year business planning cycle, ensuring the leadership team is sighted on future opportunities, risks and resource needs.
  • Provide visible, values‑led leadership to senior staff and managers, building capability, sustaining a strong health and safety culture, and championing equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Hold accountability for budgets, contracts and supplier relationships within oversight areas; lead a culture of continuous improvement, modernisation and innovation.

Qualifications

Experienced forester and leader, comfortable in both operational detail and strategic conversation, able to foster a “one team” culture across a geographically dispersed district, and capable of delivering outstanding outcomes across 86,000 hectares.
