Work Arrangement
This role is hybrid, both working from home and in our Oxford hub with weekly attendance in the office. We encourage our colleagues to work flexibly between home and the hub to suit their needs and preferences.
Salary
The starting salary is £42,655.
Purpose of Job
The Senior Executive plays a key role in delivering the assessment processes within specified time limits. The post holder will ensure the learners of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) experience a fair and consistent assessment service whilst maintaining the integrity of the qualifications offered.
Working with the examiners and IFoA colleagues the post holder will manage several assessments within the remit of the team. This includes the preparation of the assessment and supporting materials through to checking, reporting and analysis of the assessment results to support the Board meetings and subsequent release of these to the IFoA learners, ensuring they are accurately reflected in the IFoA database.
Principal Accountabilities
- Responsible for the set‑up and configuration of the internal database, exam platform, and marking platform, ensuring all data is accurate and validated.
- Support the Assessment Delivery Manager in authoring exam questions onto the exam platform, ensuring the process is carried out within required timeframes and to the set standards.
- Support the Assessment Delivery Manager in handling complex access arrangement cases as defined by the Equality Act 2010, liaising with candidates and ensuring they receive agreed support without gaining an advantage over other candidates.
- Liaise with external occupational therapists to deliver a supportive experience for candidates sitting the IFoA assessments.
- Support the delivery of assessments, ensuring the process is carried out within required timeframes and to set standards, and liaise with external providers or personnel.
- Provide 2nd line support to candidates, external suppliers, and invigilators during live examinations, guiding complex student queries and issues concerning academic aspects of the assessment, regulations, marking schemes and criteria, syllabus, and results.
- Support the collation of exam marking to enable examiners to produce results information within set deadlines, analyze live marking and results and correct identified anomalies prior to marking deadlines.
- Collate documentation required for the Board of Examiners and Mitigating Circumstances panel meetings, ensuring accurate statistics produced within required deadlines.
- Ensure candidates receive results, transcripts, and other information within agreed timescales, checking sensitive information before release to safeguard the reputation of the IFoA.
- Analyze performance of assessment systems, processes, and procedures, proposing improvement recommendations where necessary.
- Coordinate and participate in system development and associated testing protocols to ensure operational readiness of all platforms that support exam delivery.

Decision‑Making and Complexity
- Make decisions during live examinations to provide guidance to 1st line support and live invigilators, determine initial allocation of marking teams, manage dropouts, and recommend changes to processes and training.
- Analyse performance of core assessment processes and recommend changes, training, and reviews, handling data within GDPR guidelines.
- Prioritise and manage workload independently, using judgement to resolve queries and escalating issues that require further attention, conveying complex information to all levels.
- Errors in assessment area are high profile and may attract attention from high‑level committees and external stakeholders.
Additional Dimensions
- Approximately 15,000 learners are registered to sit IFoA assessments, with 26 assessments twice a year plus 3 assessments throughout the year, all of which must be added accurately to the exam platforms in time.
- Responsible for accuracy of assessment data for learners entered onto internal and external platforms, working with suppliers and IFoA colleagues to meet agreed dates.
- Engage with over 400 external examiners and markers who support this work.
- Travel to main location approximately once a week; travel to other locations and events approximately twice a year with occasional overnight stays. Role requires some out‑of‑hours working during exam sessions and following weeks (approx. six weeks in total, twice a year).
