Senior Manufacturing Engineer

Location: Templecombe

Working Pattern: Four-day week (Monday to Thursday)

This is a full-time position, working37 hours per week over four days(Monday to Thursday). The role offers some flexibility in start times, typically between6:00am and 7:30am, with working days of9.25 hours.

This is an onsite role, with working from home available by exception only.

We are seeking aManufacturing Engineer to provide innovative solutions to day-to-day production challenges, offer fresh perspectives on complex technical issues and lead the resolution of non-conformances across the factory.

Working within a manufacturing environment that includes electrical/electronic/mechanical build, assembly, and test activities the successful candidate will bring strong knowledge of manufacturing techniques and processes.

Based on the shop floor, they will act as first-line support for the Manufacturing Engineering team, supporting daily production activities, managing non-conformances and helping to resolve manufacturing-related technical issues to ensure efficient and effective operations.

The role will have a significant impact not only on the shop floor but also across the wider business. The Manufacturing Engineer will contribute to broader manufacturing discussions and promote best practice within Industry, Engineering, and Project teams, particularly in relation to non-conformances and problem resolution.

By ensuring alignment with wider business objectives and the manufacturing cell’s industrial strategy, the successful candidate will help drive improvements in quality, efficiency and the reduction of non-conformances.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a key point of contact for resolving day-to-day manufacturing issues and non-conformances, leading root cause analysis and implementing effective corrective actions.
  • Lead and coordinate Material Review Boards (MRBs), working collaboratively across functions to manage production failures and configuration changes.
  • Optimise manufacturing processes, workflows, and documentation to improve efficiency, quality, and alignment with project requirements.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance processes for the survey, repair, and refurbishment of items returned to the work cell.
  • Identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities across the manufacturing function.
  • Promote and embed Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) best practice within daily manufacturing activities, ensuring full compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to reduce and mitigate manufacturing risk.
  • Use ERP and data management systems to review and approve data packs on behalf of Industry, supporting design for manufacture, routing creation, and effective Bill of Materials (BOM) management.
  • Mentor and support junior team members, developing capability in problem‑solving, non‑conformance management, and manufacturing techniques.

About You

You will have proven experience as a Manufacturing Engineer, ideally gained within electrical/electronic assembly, mechanical assembly, or production test environments. You will also bring:

  • Strong engineering experience within low- to medium-volume light mechanical, electro-mechanical, or electronics manufacturing environments.
  • Practical experience of continuous improvement methodologies and manufacturing techniques.
  • Good understanding of manufacturing systems and processes, including routings, BOMs, concessions, and change requests.
  • Broad process knowledge across assembly and test activities.
  • Strong communication and technical documentation skills.
  • Effective time management skills, with the ability to balance customer requirements and manufacturing priorities.
