Overview

Detained Custody Officer (DCO) – Gatwick Airport, Airport BasedSalary: £32,635.00 based on a 42‑hour week.As a Detained Custody Officer you will ensure the safety, welfare andsecurity of detained immigration residents, maintaining compliancewith immigration procedures and a respectful, professional environment.

Responsibilities

  • Escort and transport immigration residents within the UK in a smallminibus‑sized vehicle, ensuring safe and secure travel.
  • Provide care to immigration residents at a fixed location(Gatwick Airport DCO Base), maintaining high security and safetystandards while treating all residents with dignity and respect.
  • Work a mix of day and night shifts to cover a 24/7, 365‑day operation.
    • Flexible shift pattern with up to one year of advance planning.

Training & Apprenticeship

  • 4‑week fully paid training course including control and restrainttraining.
  • 13 months on‑the‑job mentoring and assessments leading to anaccredited Level 3 Apprenticeship in Detention and Custody.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • UK Citizen, Commonwealth Citizen with indefinite leave toremain (not through marriage), or an EEA Citizen.
  • Valid UK passport – passports with expired visas or outdatedinformation are not accepted.
  • Continuous residence in the UK for the past 3 years with nosingle absence over 3 months.
  • Pass an Enhanced DBS check, employer referencing (last 5 years), andCounter‑Terrorist Check (CTC) vetting.
  • Full UK manual driving licence (at least 12 months experience) withfewer than 7 points and no driving bans in the last 12 months.
  • Over 21 years of age.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, calm and non‑judgementalapproach, problem‑solving abilities, and the ability to stay composedunder pressure.
  • No prior experience or qualifications required – full training andsupport will be provided. Experience handling challenging situationsor working with people in distress is a plus.
