Principal Planner – Maldon District Council

Permanent, Full Time. From £41,946.14 to £47,266.03 per annum. Location: Maldon. Closing Date: 20th July 2026. Hybrid working – minimum 2 days office per week.

The role is within the Council’s Development Management & Planning Enforcement team, part of the Place, Planning & Growth directorate. It is a new post created to support the increase in planning applications and to help the team take a more proactive approach to pre‑application advice and planning performance agreements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead on a varied caseload of major and complex planning applications.
  • Provide professional planning advice to applicants, Councillors, stakeholders and local communities.
  • Mentor junior colleagues and support the team in proactive pre‑application advice and performance agreements.
  • Ensure development proposals align with planning policy and support sustainable growth.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Strong background in development management.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Sound knowledge of planning legislation and policy.
  • Experience managing complex planning applications and performance agreements.
