Overview

Systems engineering is a cross‑functional engineering discipline centered on an approach, mindset, and process. The discipline executes a robust process of design, creation, and optimization of systems, consisting of identification and quantification of system requirements, creation of alternate system design concepts, performance of design trade studies, selection and implementation of the best designs and verification that the design is properly integrated and executed, proceeding from concept to production to operation. All activities that consider both the business and the technical needs of the customers with the goal of providing a quality product that meets the users needs. The role has moderate autonomy, requiring high levels of operational judgment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct component and product integration across multiple components and products for maximum performance and operability.
  • Manage product and systems requirements, specifications, and flow down.
  • Drive validation and verification activities for the overall product/system, including system‑level testing.
  • Define product requirements for module/component/subcontractor and partner teams.
  • Manage the interface between components and execution organizations.
  • Drive CTQ / risk trades within teams designing components.
  • Manage overall product configuration and configuration control system.
  • Develop specialized knowledge in the discipline and serve as a best‑practice/quality resource.
  • Maintain awareness of latest technical developments in the area.
  • Contribute to strategy and policy development and ensure delivery within the area of responsibility.
  • Apply in‑depth knowledge of best practices and integration with other areas, and understand competitive differentiators.
  • Use judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks in operational/product management, manufacturing, technology, or engineering.
  • Take new perspective on existing solutions.
  • Leverage technical experience and data analysis to support recommendations.
  • Use internal and limited external sources beyond the own function to reach decisions.
  • Act as a resource for less experienced colleagues.
  • Lead small projects with moderate risks and resource requirements.
  • Explain difficult or sensitive information and build consensus.
  • Develop persuasion skills to influence others within the field.

Qualifications

For roles outside of the USA—This role requires significant experience in Engineering/Technology & Systems Engineering. The knowledge level is comparable to a Master’s degree from an accredited university or college or a high school diploma with relevant experience. For roles in the USA—Master’s degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma/GED with at least 6 years of experience in the relevant Job Family Group(s)/Function(s)).
