Job Description V&V Controls & Instrumentation (C&I) Engineer – Permanent – 37 hours per week – Derby/Hybrid (3 days a week onsite)

Overview

We are looking for Controls & Instrumentation Engineers to help design, deliver and support the next generation of Civil Aerospace test facilities globally, including Test Bed 80, the world’s largest and most advanced indoor aerospace test bed.

Responsibilities

  • Design new measurement and control system solutions, including high speed data acquisition.
  • Develop aircraft‑to‑engine controller interface communication and simulation systems, including flight support.
  • Integrate new signal conditioning and commissioning.
  • Integrate IT systems including networks, data movement and storage.
  • Capture and analyse requirements, and prepare system specifications.
  • Design, monitor and accept third‑party supplied systems.
  • Possibility of travel to test facilities or suppliers worldwide.
  • Take the lead on technical projects and work as part of a team.

Qualifications

  • Background in data acquisition, including high‑speed measurement techniques.
  • Understanding of sensors, signal conditioning, measurement chains and their application.
  • Design and integration of control systems with machinery, including product selection and safety implications (e.g., PLC).
  • Experience with aircraft avionics.
  • Experience with NI products including LabVIEW.
  • Experience in requirements capture/analysis methods, such as Systems Engineering and system architecture design.
  • Good knowledge of current products, technologies and methods.
  • Demonstrable track record of delivering under pressure to tight and changing project deadlines.
  • Highly self‑motivated, enthusiastic and capable of producing work of a consistently high standard.
  • Suitable for experienced engineers or early‑career engineers interested in test systems and electronics who are keen to learn and develop on the job.
