Responsibilities
- Undertake the full range of AMHP duties, including coordinating and leading Mental Health Act assessments, making complex and defensible decisions, and ensuring that interventions are lawful, proportionate, and grounded in a human rights-based approach.
- Manage complex risk, undertake safeguarding enquiries under Section42 of the Care Act, and chair multi‑agency meetings where required.
- Engage effectively in challenging situations, influence professional decision‑making, and provide expert advice and guidance to colleagues and partner organisations.
- Maintain accurate and timely recording in line with organisational and legal standards and actively manage workload within a dynamic AMHP Duty environment.
- Contribute to service improvement and share best practice.
- Take on additional roles such as Practice Assessor or Best Interest Assessor as expected in line with Adult Social Care service development and implementation.
Qualifications
- Qualified and experienced Approved Mental Health Professional with a recognised qualification and current regulatory registration (e.g. Social Work England or relevant regulatory body) and evidence of ongoing professional development and AMHP approval/Authorisation.
- Significant post‑qualification experience working within a multi‑disciplinary mental health or community setting.
- Strong applied knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Mental Health Act1983, Care Act2014, Mental Capacity Act2005, Human Rights Act1998, and associated statutory guidance.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous professional development, maintaining up‑to‑date knowledge of legislation, policy and best practice, and contributing to service improvement.
