Position Summary
Philadelphia Health and Safe Schools (PHASeS) at the Center for Urban Bioethics focuses on creating trauma‑informed schools. The program engages community sectors, staff, parents, and children to increase awareness and application of trauma‑informed principles, combining multidisciplinary approaches to wellness—including art, fitness, and mindfulness—to provide educational coaching, parenting guidance, and modeling of trauma‑sensitive values. A key endeavor is transforming nearby public K‑8 schools into urban trauma‑sensitive beacons, creating safe and welcoming learning environments.
Job Details
- Required background checks: criminal history review, child abuse clearance, and FBI fingerprinting.
- This is a grant‑funded position.
Required Education and Experience
- Master’s Degree in Social Work, Education, or a related field.
- At least five years of trauma‑informed experience, training, and/or community engagement; or at least five years of previous counseling experience.
- Previous crisis intervention experience.
- Previous experience in community engagement.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Licensed Professional Counselor, fitness and wellness professional, or related field preferred.
- Active professional state license preferred.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Proficient computer skills and familiarity with MS Office Suite.
- Ability to obtain ACT 33 Child Abuse Clearance.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse constituents, including students, faculty, staff, project participants, and partner organizations.
- Professional handling of sensitive situations with diplomacy.
- Ability to handle confidential information.
- Analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Organizational skills and detail orientation.
- Ability to provide trauma‑informed emotional support, counseling, education, and coaching.
- Travel ability to off‑site locations not accessible by public transportation.
- Discretion, professionalism, and compassionate, approachable personality.
Essential Duties
- Develop trauma‑informed assessments for schools, communities, and systems.
- Utilize trauma‑sensitive modalities and therapeutic interventions.
- Address trauma symptoms and provide referrals and intensive support services.
- Facilitate groups.
- Disseminate trauma‑sensitive information to staff, families, community groups, and local leaders.
- Record data.
- Participate in school‑based and community meetings.
- Maintain communication with supervisors and stakeholders.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Arrangement
This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on‑campus and remote). The duration of the hybrid arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
