Job Description:

The appointment is to commence 02/09/2026 for a fixed term period of 12 months. MRCP or equivalent is essential. This post does not award a National Training Number. As the post is not recognised as a training post, full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise is required. If the appointee does not hold the right of residence in the UK, sponsorship will be required.

The service and research duties will be supervised by the STHFT Hepatology Consultants. The research will be in the field of Hepatology (the liver research post). The Fellow will be expected to work towards peer‑reviewed publications and potentially a higher degree.

There will be five clinical sessions each week. Clinical duties will be worked flexibly according to service demands, the applicant’s clinical ability/experience and research interests. A combination of hepatology clinics and upper or lower endoscopy can be negotiated, depending on the skill set of the applicant and service needs. Some outpatient clinics are integral to the post and often relate to the research interest.

This is a research post that combines research time with clinical duties within the department of hepatology. There are no on‑call or inpatient commitments.

Proposed Job Plan

  • Monday – Friday:
    • AM: Research, Research, Endoscopy/Clinic, ILD clinic, CPD/Research
    • PM: General Clinic, Research, Admin, Research, Endoscopy/Clinic/Admin

The clinical duties can be tailored to the successful applicant. They will include one weekly ILD clinic (with consultant and CNS) which is essential to research. The other clinical duties are negotiable including hepatology clinics and independent GI endoscopy list (upper and or lower according to experience). Training in upper GI endoscopy can be provided for candidates if necessary.
