Role Overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Registered Dietitian to join the Nutrition and Dietetics Healthier Future Team within NHS Forth Valley. This post offers a unique opportunity, with a clear focus on prevention and early intervention. The successful candidate will play a key role in sustaining and developing the Community Food workplan, while also increasing the contribution of Nutrition and Dietetics within prison settings in response to growing and increasingly complex population need. The scope of the role will evolve in response to service needs, ensuring a dynamic and adaptable career path, valuing the successful candidate’s interests and experience.

Responsibilities

The postholder will influence and support the development of prevention and early intervention opportunities within prison populations, with a particular focus on diabetes prevention, healthy weight, frailty and oral health. Initially, there will be a period of scoping to better understand the current need and opportunity, enabling the role to evolve in a way that is both effective and sustainable.

Alongside this, the role will play a key part in delivering and further developing our health improvement focused community food programme. This includes working in partnership with local authorities, third sector organisations and community groups to strengthen skills, knowledge and confidence around food and nutrition, particularly within communities experiencing socio-economic disadvantage. The postholder will contribute to approaches that go beyond individual behaviour change to influence food environments and systems. This will include delivering training, developing resources, and supporting workforce and community capacity building to enable sustainable, locally led action.

The role sits within a collaborative and forward‑thinking team, contributing to wider departmental objectives and supporting the development of the workforce. The postholder will be expected to contribute to training, supervision and practice development, while also maintaining strong links with NHS public health priorities, including oral health improvement and obesity prevention.

Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate will be a registered Dietitian with an interest in prevention and early intervention, and they will bring strong communication and partnership working skills, with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and adapt to evolving service priorities.

Working Hours & Pay

As from 1/4/26, the Agenda for Change full‑time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro‑rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.
