Role Overview
The Chief Audiologist will lead one or more specialist areas of Audiology Service provision, such as local operational management of a department and may lead specialities like tinnitus management or paediatric assessment. They provide local staff management within the department, which includes Senior Clinical Audiologists, Clinical Audiologists, Senior Audiology Assistants and Students.
Working pattern: Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday (8:45am – 5pm). This is a fixed‑term post of 12months. If the post has temporary funding and an existing NHS Lanarkshire staff member wishes to apply, it will be considered a secondment. The employee must have written agreement from their line manager for release before applying.
Responsibilities
- Conduct history taking and otoscopic examinations for adults, children and infants, including those with complex physical needs, learning disabilities, severe barriers to understanding, deaf or deaf-blind individuals and communication difficulties, using tact and persuasion to elicit cooperation.
- Take accurate and safe ear impressions on adults, children and special‑needs clients following professional guidelines and procedures, ensuring safe practices.
- Determine the type, material and any modifications required for earmoulds, swim moulds and other earpieces (e.g., ear defenders).
- Modify earmoulds for patients using appropriate equipment and training, including dental drill, buff/grinder and safety equipment to ensure comfortable and acoustically viable fit.
- Manage the departmental staff, including senior clinical audiologists, clinical audiologists, senior audiology assistants and students.
- Provide local operational management of the department and lead specialist areas such as tinnitus management or paediatric assessment.
Qualifications
- Registered audiologist with RCCP (Registration Council of Clinical Physiologists).
- Initial qualification of BAAT PartsI andII, BScHons Audiology or MSc Audiology.
- Member of the British Academy of Audiology.
- At least 5 years post‑qualification experience at a senior clinical level and expertise in all areas of clinical work and team management.
- Up‑to‑date knowledge of professional issues, CPO requirements and student training.
- Full UK/EU/EEA driving licence.
