Overview
This post is aimed at a Senior Clinical Fellow who would like to gain a further period of development in the sub‑specialty of spinal surgery in preparation for a consultant role. The post also provides exposure to specialist spinal clinics and theatre lists, and the opportunity to engage in specific research and audit programmes.
The post supports a 1:10 on‑call rota for general neurosurgery and is designed to increase outpatient and inpatient capacity across Coventry and Warwickshire.
Responsibilities
- Provide a comprehensive spinal service to patients in the Coventry and Warwickshire area, ensuring that all appropriate waiting lists and waiting times are adhered to and that services are delivered efficiently.
- Participate in multidisciplinary spinal meetings, including the weekly spinal disorder/spinal trauma MDT and the Tumor MDT.
- Run acute ‘hot’ spine clinics and spinal fracture clinics on a weekly basis, demonstrating the ability to manage appropriate clinics independently.
- Support senior spinal surgeons with a range of procedures, including spinal trauma, spinal tumours (primary and metastatic), degenerative spinal conditions, minimally invasive spine surgery with image‑guided fixation, spinal infection, and pain procedures.
- Engage in research and audit programmes within specialist spinal clinics.
Qualifications
Candidate should have a specialist interest and experience in spinal degenerative practice, spinal trauma, metastatic spinal cord compression, and minimally invasive spinal surgery. Training needs will be considered before determining time spent with different spinal consultants.
