Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Industrial Door Engineer role based in Lydney. The role involves installing, maintaining, and repairing industrial, commercial, and retail doors, including steel doors and shutters. Day-to-day tasks include site surveys, measuring and setting out doors to specification, mechanical and electrical fitting, troubleshooting faults, and performing routine servicing to ensure safe and reliable operation. The Industrial Door Engineer will complete job reports, liaise with customers on-site, follow health and safety procedures, and work collaboratively with the wider engineering and installation team. The role may involve working at height, using power tools, and occasional overtime or call-outs depending on project needs.

Qualifications

  • Experience with installation, maintenance, and repair of industrial or commercial doors, shutters, or similar mechanical systems.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, including use of hand and power tools, basic fabrication, and mechanical fault‑finding.
  • Understanding of electrical components related to door systems, such as motors, controls, and safety devices (formal electrical qualifications are an advantage).
  • Knowledge of health and safety practices, including safe working at height and manual handling.
  • Ability to read technical drawings, follow specifications, and carry out accurate measurements on‑site.
  • Good communication and customer service skills, with the ability to work professionally on client premises.
  • Capability to work independently and as part of a team, with a reliable and proactive approach to problem‑solving.
  • Relevant vocational training or apprenticeship in engineering, mechanical fitting, or a related field is preferred.
  • Full valid driver’s license suitable for travel to customer sites; willingness to travel within the region as required.
