Role Description

The Service and Breakdown Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in Leicester. This position is responsible for diagnosing and repairing faults on industrial process chillers and air conditioning systems, including emergency breakdowns. Day-to-day tasks include performing routine maintenance, completing service visits according to contract requirements, and supporting installations and commissioning of new equipment. The engineer will liaise with customers on-site, provide clear updates on work progress, and ensure all activities comply with safety and regulatory standards. The role also involves accurate documentation of work carried out, reporting recurring issues, and collaborating with mechanical pipe fitters and electricians to deliver effective solutions.

Qualifications

  • Strong technical skills in air conditioning, refrigeration, and industrial process cooling systems, including fault finding and repair.
  • Experience with installation, commissioning, and servicing of chillers and associated mechanical and electrical components.
  • Knowledge of relevant safety regulations, industry standards, and best practices for on-site work in industrial environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and equipment manuals.
  • Good communication and customer service skills, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Capacity to work independently, manage time effectively, and respond promptly to emergency call-outs.
  • Relevant technical qualification or apprenticeship in refrigeration, air conditioning, mechanical engineering, or electrical engineering.
  • Valid UK driving licence and willingness to travel locally to customer sites as required.
  • Experience with service contracts and maintenance scheduling is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with basic IT tools for reporting, scheduling, and documentation.
