Context
Access to environmental information is a fundamental component of the right to information and a prerequisite for accountability, public participation, and environmental justice. Independent media and civil society organizations play a key role in ensuring that environmental information is accessible, reliable, and actionable. This call aims to support initiatives that strengthen environmental transparency, public‑interest journalism, and the protection of journalists working on environmental issues.

This is an open call with no geographical restrictions. Applications are welcome from organizations and media actors worldwide.

Advocacy
- Initiatives creating more visibility around environmental journalism during the COP31 conducted in Nov 2026 in Turkey
- Advocacy for transparency, open data, and accountability in environment related policies or laws impacting journalists reporting on environmental
- Advocacy campaigns focusing on specific cases of environmental journalists or media being targeted for their work
Editorial Content
- Production of Investigations, monitoring, reports, documentaries, podcast, community radio etc. highlighting the needs or challenges of environmental journalists in their context
Protection of Journalists (Assistance)
- Legal support for journalists covering environmental issues
- Civil society support networks for environmental journalists facing threats or restrictions
Eligibility Criteria for Applying Organisations – Applicants Must
- Be a registered organization, collectives or networks working with journalists or media (preferred, exceptions if context demands)
- Have not received any funding support from RSF in the last five years
- Organisations working nationally and regionally will be preferred
- Media outlets (including community and independent media)
- Journalist collectives or networks

- Investigative and editorial projects
- Advocacy campaigns and initiatives
- Legal aid
- Development of tools or platforms improving access to environmental data
- Development of civil society networks devoted to support environmental journalists
Maximum Eligible Budget for Proposals: 20,000€
