Job Description

Senior Flood Modeller – responsible for delivering high quality flood modelling and hydrology projects. You will be a senior technical resource guiding junior staff and proactively developing services for various clients.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and check hydraulic models using Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, Mike 11, Mike 21, HEC‑RAS, ICM, etc., to assist in flood alleviation scheme design, flood risk assessments and reservoir flood studies.
  • Develop water quality models (physico‑chemical, biological, bacterial, chemical) using MIKE, Delft3D, SIMCAT, ICM.
  • Conceptualise and scope modelling approaches, evaluating risks and opportunities.
  • Undertake and check hydrological assessments using Flood Estimation Handbook, ReFH2 and WINFAP.
  • Lead and contribute to tenders ranging from one‑off projects to multimillion‑pound framework contracts.
  • Mentor team members to support professional development.
  • Build client relationships and collaborate with technical disciplines.
  • Keep up‑to‑date with changes in legislation and guidelines that affect services.
  • Use project‑management systems to deliver high‑quality outputs within agreed programme and budget.
  • Work closely with clients and technical specialists on fluvial, coastal, surface‑water or drainage flood risk projects.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience with hydraulic and water quality modelling software (Mike, ICM, SIMCAT, Flood Modeller, TUFLOW).
  • Knowledge of Environment Agency requirements for flood risk assessment models.
  • Basic understanding of physico‑chemical water quality and associated regulatory standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or relevant discipline.
  • Professional qualification with CIWEM or equivalent (or progress towards).
  • Knowledge of scripting (Python, Anaconda, Ruby) is advantageous.
