About The College
Northumberland College is Ofsted Outstanding and is currently building a multi-million, state‑of‑the‑art new college campus in Ashington, due to open in 2026. The successful candidate will be based at the new college where a purpose‑built construction, housing, advanced manufacturing and engineering centre will be located.
Curriculum spans technical, vocational further and higher education and includes large apprenticeship provision and dedicated centres for young people with SEND.
The College has two main campuses in Ashington and Ponteland, and as part of the college group Education Partnership Northeast it also has a significant number of satellite delivery centres across the region.
Served by easy road links and the new train station in Ashington, when Northumberland College opens its new Department for Education‑backed campus at Wansbeck Business Park the college will boast a national trailblazer both in architectural design and operation. This major £52 million+ investment comes on top of the College’s recent £14 million investment into new facilities and resources at its existing sites.

About The Candidate
Programme Leaders oversee the successful delivery of engineering programmes, managing a team of educators and ensuring the curriculum aligns with industry standards. They deliver engaging theoretical and practical lessons that help students build knowledge and hands‑on skills in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.
Role Responsibilities
- Collaborate with curriculum manager to develop career‑focused, high‑quality learning plans, ensuring effective sequencing and resources.
- Maintain accurate data throughout the student journey, driving continual improvement and evaluating programme performance regularly.
- Lead the development of new programmes, ensuring they meet industry needs and offer cutting‑edge educational opportunities.
- Oversee student progression, providing guidance to ensure recruitment, retention, achievement and positive career outcomes.
- Lead exemplary teaching, assessment standards and ensure a high‑quality learner experience across the course/programme.
- Take proactive action on student concerns (attendance, well‑being) in partnership with internal teams and external agencies.
- Develop industry links to ensure the delivery is meeting local and national industrial demands.
Qualifications
- Minimum Level 3 qualification in an Engineering discipline (Mechanical/Electrical/Mechatronics)
- Minimum Level 2 maths qualification
- Minimum Level 2 English qualification
Essential Skills & Experience
- Previous experience of working within the Engineering (Electrical/Mechanical/Mechatronics) sector is essential.
- Confident use of virtual learning environments (VLEs), learning technologies and digital tools to create engaging and effective learning experiences.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues and external stakeholders.
- Practical based skills to demonstrate and assess electro/mechanical activities.
- Expertise in one or more of the following trades: Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.
- Previous experience in the relevant trade industry is essential.
- You don’t need to have formal teaching qualifications at this stage! We are happy to consider applicants without Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and can provide training to help you achieve your teaching qualifications.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to engage and motivate students.
- Enthusiasm for teaching and a commitment to helping students achieve their potential.
Desirable Skills & Experience – (Optional)
- Level 5 teaching qualification
- Experience of leading teaching and learning
