Maintenance Engineer (Shift Cover) – Manchester £35.00‑£40.00 per hour (Umbrella / Outside IR35)

Gap Technical is seeking skilled Maintenance Engineers to provide ad‑hoc shift cover across a range of manufacturing sites in the Manchester area. Responsibilities

• Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns to minimise production downtime.
• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance activities.
• Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical faults using technical documentation and engineering expertise.
• Fault‑find on 3‑phase electrical systems, drives, PLC I/O, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
• Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to identify recurring issues and implement long‑term solutions.
• Work collaboratively with production and operations teams to maximise equipment reliability and performance.
• Ensure all maintenance work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

Qualifications & Experience

• A completed time-served engineering apprenticeship (preferred).
• Previous experience within manufacturing or production environments.
• Strong fault‑finding skills across 3‑phase electrical systems, drives, PLC I/O, pneumatic systems and hydraulic systems.
• Excellent communication and problem‑solving abilities.
• The ability to work independently and adapt quickly to different manufacturing sites.
• Experience within FMCG, Packaging, Food & Beverage or Chemical manufacturing is advantageous but not essential.
