Locum Consultant Transplant Respiratory Physician

Overview

Full‑time position at MFT based at Wythenshawe Hospital. The role focuses on the pre‑ and post‑operative management of lung transplant patients, working in partnership with respiratory and transplant consultants and the multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Provide ongoing care of heart and lung transplant recipients in collaboration with respiratory, cardiology and surgical colleagues.
• Share the transplant medicine on‑call roster and deliver continued care of patients admitted under the post’s care.
• Assess candidates for lung transplant suitability.
• Lead one pre‑transplant clinic, one post‑transplant clinic, bronchoscopy clinic and conduct 2‑4 ward rounds each week.
• Organise and deliver the transplant multidisciplinary team meetings (two per week) and manage one bronchoscopy list each week dedicated to transplant patients.
• Support and mentor transplant specialist nurses, research nurses and clinical/research fellows.
• Maintain a 16‑bed transplant ward and oversee variable numbers of patients admitted to the cardiac and thoracic cardiac care unit (CTCCU) for heart and lung transplant and artificial heart patients.

Qualifications

Substantial experience in the pre‑ and post‑operative management of lung transplant patients. Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and manage complex transplant care pathways.
