Since 2005, MTI Welding Technologies, their Kingswinford facility located in the heart of the Midlands, has grown to be an industry leader in rotary friction welding machines throughout Europe. Their team of experts is a full‑service provider to customers, ensuring on‑site service, OEM friction welder parts, installation, and operator and maintenance training needs are met.
As their influence expands, MTI is searching for a skilled and creative minded Field Test and Service Engineer. This position, based out of Kingswinford, reports directly to the Director of Operations and will travel extensively throughout Europe and the globe, using your machine installation and trouble‑shooting skills with MTI’s state‑of‑the‑art joining and welding equipment. Superior skills in diagnosing and repairing mechanical, pneumatics, and hydraulics systems are essential, as is an ability to build relationships with a wide range of field customers. Additional experience with electronics or robotic systems will ensure your success. Your ability to read blueprints and schematics and a willingness to learn and grow will position you for continued career growth within a company that provides extensive training and cares about your contributions. Working knowledge of ladder logic – predominantly Siemens, but also Allen Bradley PLC – would also be an advantage. You will be able to travel 30‑50% of the time (this could be higher for short periods), earning additional compensation under the Global Travel Policy.

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions
- Communicate with customers professionally and knowledgeably.
- Work proficiently with PLC Siemens S7‑1200, S7‑1500, and Rockwell PLC ControlLogix; utilize ladder logic, structured text, and MCC for machine control.
- Program PLCs using Siemens TIA Portal, Simatic Manager, and Rockwell RSLogix5000.
- Understand automation, electrical schematics (EPLAN, AutoCAD) and fluid power systems (hydraulic and lubrication schematics).
- Conduct machine debug and startup.
- Know functional machine safety equipment and safety guarding requirements.
- Travel throughout Europe and worldwide to install and repair machines; work independently.
- Dismantle defective machines and install new or repaired parts, following specifications and drawings with precision instruments and hand tools.
- Modify or replace machine control elements per electrical schematics.
- Diagnose and repair machines in close collaboration with customers.
- Install and repair electrical apparatus, such as wiring and electronic components.
- Install machinery and equipment according to drawings and other specifications.
- Lay out, assemble, install and maintain hydraulic and pneumatic equipment; repair/replace gauges, valves, pressure regulators and related components.
- Install, program or repair automated machinery and equipment, such as flash‑turn‑off, programmable controllers, conveyors, and robots.
- Apply troubleshooting expertise using visual inspection and listening for unusual sounds to determine malfunctions, and discuss operation with customer personnel.
- Provide instruction to customer personnel to operate MTI machines safely and effectively.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation for expense reports, working hours, service reports and machine acceptance documents.

- Perform other assignments as requested by manager or supervisor.
