Balfor Recruitment is proud to be working in partnership with a well‑established children’s residential care provider to recruit a passionate and dedicated Registered Children’s Home Manager for a three‑bedroom Children’s Residential Home in Erdington, Birmingham.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a specialist home supporting children and young people with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD) and Learning Disabilities (LD). The Role

As the Registered Children’s Home Manager, you will have overall responsibility for the operational management, leadership, and regulatory compliance of the home. You will lead the service through registration (where applicable), ensuring the home consistently meets and exceeds Ofsted Children’s Homes Regulations, the Quality Standards, and all safeguarding requirements.

Working closely with senior leadership, you will recruit, inspire, and develop a dedicated team committed to delivering outstanding residential childcare.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the day‑to‑day management of the Children’s Residential Home.
  • Prepare the home for Ofsted registration, inspections, and ongoing regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with the Children’s Homes Regulations, Quality Standards, safeguarding legislation, and company policies.
  • Deliver outstanding, child‑focused, trauma‑informed, and person‑centred care.
  • Create a safe, nurturing, and therapeutic environment where children can thrive.
  • Recruit, lead, motivate, supervise, and develop a high‑performing care team.
  • Complete staff supervision, appraisals, training, and performance management.
  • Develop individual care plans, behaviour support strategies, and placement plans.
  • Promote excellent safeguarding practices and ensure the welfare of every child remains paramount.
  • Monitor incidents, risk assessments, medication management, and health and safety compliance.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, audits, and statutory documentation.
  • Build positive relationships with Local Authorities, Ofsted, families, education providers, healthcare professionals, and external agencies.
  • Manage occupancy, referrals, admissions, and placement matching.
  • Promote continuous quality improvement across the service.
  • Participate in the management on‑call rota.

Essential Requirements

  • At least 2 years’ management experience within a Children’s Residential Home.
  • Experience as a Registered Manager or an experienced Deputy Manager ready to progress.
  • Excellent knowledge of Ofsted regulations, Children’s Homes Regulations, and Quality Standards.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and children’s legislation.
  • Experience supporting children with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD) and/or Learning Disabilities (LD).
  • Level 3 or Level 4 qualification in Residential Childcare, Children & Young People, or equivalent.
  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management for Residential Childcare (or willingness to complete).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience opening or registering a new Children’s Home.
  • Knowledge of attachment theory, trauma‑informed practice, and therapeutic care.
  • Experience managing budgets and financial performance.
  • Understanding of Local Authority referral and placement processes.
  • Previous experience achieving Good or Outstanding Ofsted inspections.
  • Flexible approach to working hours and operational needs.
