Health & Safety Manager

Vickerstock are proud to be working in partnership with a leading engineering and manufacturing company to recruit a Health & Safety Manager for their Northern Ireland operation. Reporting to senior management, the successful candidate will take ownership of all Health & Safety activities across the site, ensuring compliance with legislation, promoting a positive safety culture, and supporting operational excellence throughout the business.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of the company’s Health & Safety strategy.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant Health & Safety legislation and industry standards.
  • Develop, maintain and continuously improve Health & Safety policies, procedures and management systems.
  • Carry out risk assessments and ensure appropriate control measures are implemented.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure safe working practices are maintained.
  • Monitor and report on Health & Safety performance, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
  • Deliver Health & Safety training and awareness initiatives across the business.
  • Support managers and supervisors in promoting a proactive safety culture.
  • Manage contractor safety and ensure compliance with site requirements.
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness activities and response procedures.
  • Liaise with external agencies, auditors and regulatory bodies as required.
  • Keep up to date with legislative changes and industry best practice.

What you will need to succeed

  • NEBOSH Diploma (Level 6) or equivalent Health & Safety qualification is essential.
  • Previous experience in a Health & Safety Manager or Senior Health & Safety position within an engineering, manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and compliance requirements.
  • Experience carrying out risk assessments, audits and incident investigations.
  • Proven ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong communication, organisational and problem‑solving skills.
  • Experience working with Health & Safety management systems and continuous improvement initiatives.

Desirable

  • Experience within heavy engineering, fabrication, aerospace, precision engineering or manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of ISO 45001 management systems.
  • Experience supporting environmental compliance activities.
