Overview

Are you passionate about research and financial management? Join our dynamic team at the Department of Public Health and Primary Care. We manage an extensive research grant portfolio funded by renowned sponsors including the UK Medical Research Council (MRC), the Wellcome Trust, the British Heart Foundation (BHF), Cancer Research UK (CRUK), the UK National Institute of Health Research, the European Commission, and various industrial partners.

Responsibilities

  • Provide essential high‑level support services to achieve research excellence and maximize funding.
  • Create complex grant applications using the University costing tool.
  • Coordinate pre‑award and post‑award activity, ensuring compliance with sponsors’ terms and conditions.
  • Advise on application procedures around sponsor deadlines and Departmental and University policies.
  • Ensure applications are submitted to the Research Office within deadlines and track progress towards sponsor submission.
  • Oversee and manage grants held by over 20 senior academics, providing detailed financial management reports to ensure utilisation of funds according to sponsor T&Cs.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for queries from sponsors, external partners and internal departments, communicating complex information clearly and effectively.

Qualifications

  • Exceptional organisational and time‑management skills with the ability to prioritise a diverse and changing workload.
  • High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with a wide range of individuals.
  • Pro‑active, service‑orientated, able to use initiative within a collaborative environment.
  • Minimum educational requirement: A‑level standard or equivalent, including English and Mathematics at GCSE level, or NVQ Level 3.
  • Previous experience working in Higher Education is beneficial but not essential.

Employment details

This is a full‑time position.

Funding for this post is available until 31 August 2027.

Location: Strangeways Research Laboratory, Worts Causeway, CB1 8RN (approx 2 miles south of city centre).
