Overview
The Department of Physics at the University of Bath is seeking a Lecturer / Senior Lecturer with a strong research profile in astrophysics, particularly in observational time‑domain astrophysics.
The Bath Astrophysics Group has an international reputation in galaxy and extragalactic astrophysics, including relativistic transients, extreme matter physics, multi‑messenger astronomy, galaxy evolution, galaxy–black hole co‑evolution, variable stars and cosmology. Group members collaborate with major facilities such as JWST, VRO‑LSST, CTA, SKA, Cosmic Explorer, eXTP and are involved in the 4MOST consortium.
Responsibilities
- Establish a well‑funded independent research programme that complements and enhances existing activities in the group and across the university, including potential collaborations with the Departments of Computer Science and Mathematical Sciences.
- Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, supervision, and departmental administrative duties.
- Engage with the wider research community, contribute to grant applications, and develop research funding pathways.
Qualifications
- Strong research record in astrophysics, with a unique and innovative approach that aligns with the strengths of the Bath Astrophysics Group.
- Track record of securing external research funding and publishing in high‑impact journals.
- Demonstrated experience in teaching and supervising students at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment.
Employment Details
Full‑time, open‑ended role (36.5 hours per week). Expected start date early 2027 or late 2026. Competitive salary and benefits package.
