Job Description:

EMPLOYMENT POLICY AND GOVERNANCE MANAGER

Onsite (EH52 5LY, West Lothian) | Hybrid working may be considered

This is a rare opportunity, for a highly experienced employment specialist who knows this space inside out and wants to shape how policy, ER and governance actually work in practice.

We are not looking for a generalist and this is also not a senior level leadership role. This is a specialist, hands‑on, back office support position; someone with breadth and depth of current employment relations experience, employment policy and governance matters, knowing how to turn all of that into clear, commercial, usable frameworks that hold up in the real business world. The employment landscape in the U.K. continues to evolve and as a forward looking business, we are leaning into the future in an ongoing structured, controlled and considered manner.

The focus for this role is simple: continue to evolve what we have, refine and help provide ongoing clarity, consistency, and upskilling, without over‑engineering or adding unnecessary process. Strong judgement, commercial thinking and practical application are what matters most.

This role will sit closely with HR Business Partners at a peer‑level. Crucially, this role also carries real weight in any third‑party and any trade union engagement activities. Knowledge, experience, credibility, structure and calm authority are therefore critical requirements for this role.

Key areas of focus:

  • Design and evolve employment policies, contracts and governance frameworks in line with legislative requirements
  • Proactively and consistently review UK employment legislation, translating relevant needs into clear, practical and commercially focussed business guidance
  • Lead third party (including trade union) engagement; consultation; and negotiation activities
  • Act as a specialist advisor on complex and high‑risk matters
  • Strengthen internal escalation points and frameworks
  • Partner with HR Operations to ensure compliance, consistency and audit readiness
  • Identify trends and support proactive risk reduction activities

What we are looking for:

  • Deep, proven expertise in employee relations, policy and employment governance
  • Strong track record leading activities with third parties including trade unions
  • Confident application of UK employment law in live business situations
  • Experience shaping policies, contracts and frameworks that actually work in practice
  • Comfortable operating as a peer support specialist for HRBPs and HR operations
  • Commercially sharp, pragmatic and calm under pressure
