The Associate Chief Nursing Information Officer (ACNIO) is a senior nursing leader within the Corporate Nursing team, responsible for leading the digital transformation agenda across Nursing, Midwifery, and Allied Health Professional (AHP) services. The ACNIO reports to the Chief Information Officer and Digital Services for the Acute Provider Collaborative and supports integration of digital systems that enhance clinical practice, improve patient outcomes, and optimise operational efficiency.
The role provides strategic leadership for digital initiatives, ensuring alignment with the Trust’s and Acute Provider Collaborative’s goals. The ACNIO supports readiness for electronic patient record (EPR) implementation, leads on professional digital standards, and ensures digital solutions are safe, effective, and enhance patient care. This position also contributes to education, clinical engagement, and governance around digital innovations.
Main duties of the job
The ACNIO drives the digital transformation of nursing, midwifery, and AHP services across the Trust, providing strategic clinical leadership and working closely with divisional leaders and digital teams to embed safe and effective digital solutions such as the Electronic Patient Record (EPR).
Key responsibilities include leading the Nursing and Midwifery Informatics Programme, aligning it with Trust-wide and Acute Provider Collaborative digital strategies, assessing clinical risk, facilitating service readiness, and supporting the standardisation of practice through informatics. The ACNIO acts as a conduit between clinical teams and digital governance structures, ensuring changes to clinical systems are informed by frontline practice, improve patient outcomes, and uphold high standards of care. The role also commissions data reports, advises on nursing metrics, and represents the Trust at strategic digital forums.
Person specification
- Experience of leading and managing a clinical digital service (minimum Lead Nurse experience)
- Experience leading large‑scale transformation/improvement programmes with demonstrated outcomes
- Experience in clinical governance and quality leadership at divisional or trust level
- Significant evidence of stakeholder engagement and influencing across all organisational levels
- Experience developing policy, strategy and writing board papers
- Doctoral level education, evidence of publication, and qualification in leadership

Registration – NMC, Midwife or HCPC with a MSc and evidence of professional development
