Position Overview

Mental Health Support Worker – Allocate on Arrival team – St Anns Hospital, Poole.

Responsibilities

  • Work across multiple mental health wards and units, including Psychiatric Intensive Care Units, Adult and Older Persons Acute Assessment and Treatment wards, and Health Based Place of Safety, according to service need.
  • Provide compassionate, therapeutic support in difficult or distressing circumstances, following individual care plans and under the supervision of registered practitioners.
  • Observe, engage and support patients, promoting emotional regulation and delivering de‑escalation techniques when needed.
  • Appropriately document and report incidents or concerns to the registered member of staff on shift.
  • Record physical health monitoring and observations accurately, escalating as required.
  • Maintain privacy and dignity for all patients at all times.
  • Accompany patients outside the hospital or to other clinical sites when necessary, with transport arrangements made within working hours.
  • Participate in shift work, including nights, weekends and Bank Holidays, to meet service demands.
  • Successfully complete the Trust Prevention and Management Violence and Aggression (PMVA) training.

Requirements

  • Experience supporting people with mental health and/or learning disabilities.
  • Ability to work flexibly in varied clinical wards and environments.
  • Willingness to undertake shift work, including nights, weekends and Bank Holidays.
  • Completed PMVA training.
  • Strong teamwork skills and a positive, proactive approach to patient care.
  • Excellent listening, empathy and problem‑solving skills.
